This past week on the mid-coast of Maine has been a clear example of why September just might be the most beautiful time of the year in this part of the world. Summer tourists have returned to their hometowns, the streets have returned to a normal pace, and the weather has shifted from warm to crisp. Days start out in the low 50's and afternoons drift by in the mid to low 60's. Nights are cool, sometimes dipping down into the 40's. The feel of September sun, coupled with a cool breeze off the ocean leads to an intoxicating smell that can only be described as heavenly. Thick white
fair weather clouds seem to float across the
Penobscot Bay, as tall green pines bend and sway to the southwest winds that pick up in the morning and hold throughout the day. The week culminated with a stunning
sunset over the bay. From the top of Mount
Battie, I captured a rainbow sitting over North Haven Island and a row of pink clouds drifting over
Rockport. These September days have to be enjoyed, because like all good things, they
unfortunately come to an end!
