Owls Head Evening

Situated at the eastern entrance to Penobscot Bay, Owls Head, is a sleepy little town with a classic lighthouse and a working harbor that bustles with lobster boats throughout the year. When I was a child, my mother would take me here to see the lighthouse and walk on the jagged rocks and cliffs that mark the town and surrounding area. We would look across the Penobscot and count the white sails that glided by, and watch the North Haven Ferry make it's daily rounds to Rockland. Every time I visit Owl's Head, two things continue to impress me: the amazing variety of rocks and the patterns they present, and the one of kind view across the Bay to the Camden Hills. On a recent September evening, both the rocks and the view were on full display!
